Frequently Asked Questions
Wait, there is no escrow payment?
What if I need something to be implemented *urgently*?
I already have a donate button on my website, why do I need OSMoss?
How do you verify OS developers?
How does it work?
- A developer of an Open Source project registers his project with OSMoss (100% free)
- Users of the Open Source project donate towards implementation of specific features or support
- On every donation OSMoss takes 5% of the donation and the rest is sent to the developer
Wait, there is no escrow payment?
Nope. Unlike sites such as www.elance.com we do not require any escrow. If you believe in the open source please donate first (you can designate towards which feature you are donating). OS developers will do their best to implement the features towards which they received donations. Not only you help the developers make their living but you are also helping the whole IT community. We think it is a great feeling.
What if I need something to be implemented *urgently*?
Very simple: donate more :) and indicate your urgency. The developer will do his absolutely best to help you out. And trust us, if you are open source developer the moment you receive a donation 5x more than a typical donation you will work hard to help.
I already have a donate button on my website, why do I need OSMoss?
By listing your project on OSMoss you let your users know that while the project is open source, you are officially providing donation-based production and development support for your project.
How do you verify OS developers?
When a developer/maintainer registers his project with OSMoss we ask him to commit into the source code an innocent (commented) unique sequence of characters provided by us. Then we wait till the commit is made in public repository and verify that the commit is indeed done by the same person who is registering the project on OSMoss.
